This study examined continuity as a requirement for domestic employment in Brazil and its relationship with the expansion of domestic day work. It focused on Salvador, its metropolitan region and the state of Bahia. The methods combined case law, literature and legislative analysis with descriptive examination of secondary statistical data. The findings identified quantitative interpretations preceding the 2015 law and disputes over the weekly frequency required to establish employment. Regional data showed expanding day work and limited social protection. The evidence did not establish a causal effect of the law on these changes. The findings opened a national research agenda on day work and protection.
