The article showcases a detailed study of all provisional measures requested and indicated in contentious cases of the International Court of Justice since its inception. The paper’s main objective is to expose data, in order to analyse the role of the ICJ. Therefore, to achieve this goal, cases were categorised based on international community interests classifications, in addition to further elaboration on erga omnes thematics. This allowed for a systematic study on the acceptance, compliance, legal basis behind and further aspects of all the different types of requests. The entire research was conducted utilising requests for provisional measures as the unit of analysis.
