The fields of management research and education have been increasingly criticized for their attachment to the ensuing crises of global neoliberal capitalism, not only in the South, but also in the Global North. Growing numbers of authors argue that the expanded field of management (including public administration and other types), subordinated to hegemonic dynamics of change-continuity mobilized by neoliberal capitalism, has helped to produce and diffuse more problems than solutions on a global scale. Economist managerialism, the depoliticization of organizations and societies, and the hegemonic rearticulation of neo-colonialism are three of the main issues highlighted by growing literature to explain the complicity of expanded management with the diffusion and deepening of the accumulation-inequality binomial. One of the main challenges, linked to the dynamics of changecontinuity mobilized by the globalist expansionism of new public management (NPM) and management knowledge (in research and education) focusing on emerging economies, has been the marginalization of the multifaceted field of development management in parallel, and in response, to the growing recognition of the importance of managing hybrid developmentalism for the rise of emerging economies and, more recently, also of the global North. This project investigates how and why BNDES-focused development organizations in Brazil manage managerialism-developmentalism binomials in changecontinuity dynamics. We argue that the fields of research and education in the management of managerialism-developmentalism hybridism (s) in changecontinuity dynamics is one of the main challenges not only for the extended field of management, but also for alternative construction projects and cosmopolitan fields or modern knowledge in management/administration /development.
