This article analyzes Bolsonarism as a multifaceted, transnational political phenomenon that transcends the figure of Jair Bolsonaro, articulating religious conservatism, authoritarian militarism, digital populism, and anti-political rhetoric. The research traces the movement’s rise from Bolsonaro’s parliamentary career, highlighting the consolidation of an ideology grounded in anti-communism, militarism, and Christian moralism. The study demonstrates how Bolsonarism employed a highly effective digital apparatus to disseminate disinformation, mobilize affective responses, and delegitimize institutions, and it explores the close alliance with the evangelical sphere, which provided an essential social and rhetorical base for its support. Connected to an international constellation of authoritarian right-wing movements, Bolsonarism is presented as a power project with hegemonic ambitions, evidenced by the 2018 electoral victory and the subsequent reconfiguration of public debate in Brazil. The article concludes that the movement represents a structural threat to liberal democracy by undermining institutional checks and institutionalizing a “culture war” logic that fosters polarization and intolerance.
