During the Scientific Initiation period, I participated in several activities related to reading, reflection, and the production of content on feminism, gender, and women's political participation. I wrote summaries and gave presentations on important texts by authors such as Heleieth Saffioti, Bell Hooks, Djamila Ribeiro, Michelle Perrot, among others, covering topics like patriarchy, racism, violence against women, standpoint theory, and women's presence in politics.
In addition to the theoretical work, I did a research on the political system of Colombia, investigating how the State and government work, women's voting rights, and their representation in Parliament. The research included data on gender quota laws and the number of women elected over time.
Another important topic I explored was women's participation in Brazil's municipal elections, especially the number of women mayors, councilwomen, and Black women elected in 2024. The analysis showed progress compared to the 2020 elections, but also highlighted that female representation is still low.
The main outcome of the project was the development of the article “The challenges faced by women councilors in the Rio de Janeiro City Council: silencing and political violence against women”, which discusses the difficulties faced by women in politics, such as disrespect, isolation, and political attacks due to their gender.
